EDF EN Canada has secured an authorization from the Government of Quebec for the construction of the Rivière-du-Moulin wind project.
The 350MW project, located in unorganized territory (UT) of Lac-Pikauba is expected require a total investment of $800m.
EDF EN Canada COO Al Kurzenhauser remarked that the approval from the government is an important milestone in the development of the project and allows the company to place a major procurement order.
The company selected wind turbine manufacturer REpower Systems to supply equipment required for the project.
“We further recognize and appreciate our long-term partnership with REpower. Together our companies have now commissioned 1,275 MW throughout North America,” noted Kurzenhauser.
The Rivière-du-Moulin project is expected to be developed in two phases, the first of which will involve 150MW capacity with construction expected to commence in 2013 and December 2014 set as the completion date.
Second phase of the project, involving the remaining 200MW capacity, is scheduled for commissioning in December 2015.
The project, when complete, is expected to be the largest wind facility in Canada under a single power purchase agreement.
