Siemens Canada has secured a contract from Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy to supply 124 wind turbines for the 270MW South Kent Wind project in Chatham-Kent, Ontario.
The deal also includes a three-year service agreement. The South Kent Wind project will use SWT-2.3-101 turbines, featuring a maximum power rating of up to 2.3MW each, and a rotor diameter of 101m at a hub-height of 99.5m.
After completion, the project will produce enough renewable energy to meet the needs of about 100,000 homes per year.
The wind turbines installation is scheduled to commence in 2013, while operations is expected to start in early 2014.
Siemens will manufacture the blades at its Tillsonburg plant and the towers at CS Wind’s factory in Windsor.
The company has also opened a Canadian wind turbine service and maintenance distribution centre in Chatham, Ontario, to improve its proximity to its customer base.
