POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe, the leading conference and exhibition for the international power and renewable industries, is celebrating a triumphant second day. The show, which is the largest of its kind in Europe, provided expert industry insight and an exciting programme of debate to over 13,000 visitors.
MedReg, the association of Mediterranean energy regulators, kicked off day two with a roundtable titled: ‘Electricity in the Mediterranean: transition towards national reforms’. The discussion featured cooperation of transmission system operators, de-risking investments in the region and the implications of the energy transition. Speakers raised concerns about financing, and support was given for a gradual approach to the energy transition with the introduction of localised, pilot schemes.
Another must-see of the day was the ‘Utility Leaders Roundtable’, which saw seven of Italy’s top decision-makers from a diverse cross-section of utilities and municipalities come together to discuss traditional and renewable power generation across Europe.
Innovation, legislation and clean energy were three key focuses of debate. The experts also assessed the future of traditional utilities, the prospects for new entrants and the trend towards consumer power and distributed generation. The panel agreed that innovation is critical for the future of the sector, and that traditional bodies will continue to play a central role in energy supply.
The conference also featured a dedicated ‘Energy Storage Day’, where experts agreed that storage technologies are vital to the success of reaching Europe’s decarbonisation targets.
On the exhibition floor, delegates enjoyed networking opportunities and technical insights from 450 exhibitors. Attendees also had a chance to share their opinions in the ‘Confidence Index’ booth. The Index is a barometer for industry attitudes, providing insight from inside Europe’s power sector. Results will be revealed later this year.
Thursday 23rd June is the final day of POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe. Highlights include a dedicated Hydropower Day, which recognises hydropower’s contribution to Europe’s energy mix. Another key focus will be: ‘overcoming financial hurdles for project developers’, in which key European investors will discuss the challenges of securing investment and how to overcome them.
There’s still time to attend and be a part of Europe’s largest power generation event. Register in the reception area of the MiCo Milano or online.
