Obayashi has won a contract from Nam Ngiep 1 Power to provide civil engineering works for the Nam Ngiep 1 hydropower project in Laos.
As per the contract, Obayashi’s scope of work includes construction of main dam body, power station and road for the project, which is co-owned by KPIC Netherlands (45%), a subsidiary of Kansai Electric Power, EGAT International (30%), and Lao Holding State Enterprise (25%).
The project calls for the construction of concrete gravity dams and two power stations with outputs of around 270MW and 18MW respectively on the Nam Ngiep River, a tributary of the Mekong that flows through Laos and Thailand on their border.
Located in Borikhamxay, Laos, the plant’s main dam is 148m height, 530m length at the top, and the volume of the body is around two million m3.
The developers will carry out preparatory works for road, river diversion, excavation for the dam foundation, temporary facilities for the dam between 2013 and 2015 and start the concrete placement of the main dam with power generation set to start in January 2019.
