Sweden-based energy company Tethys Oil has spud an onshore exploration well, B4EW4, in Oman and has encountered oil in four separate formations.
The well on block 4 was drilled to a total depth of 3,030m on a dense grid of high quality 2D seismic data and is situated about 20km west of the Saiwan East oil field.
Tethys Oil encountered oil shows during the drilling of the in four formations namely ower Al Bashir, Buah, Khufai and Masirah Bay.
The company has completed wireline logging operations and begun testing program to examine the Khufai and Buah reservoirs. Testing program results are expected within three weeks.
Tethys Oil, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Tethys Oil Block 3 and 4 Ltd, owns 30% interest in blocks 3 and 4. Mitsui E&P Middle East holds 20% interest, whereas CC Energy Development (Oman branch) is the operator of the blocks with 50% interest.
